Communication Workshops

Workshops For Teams

There’s nothing humans do more frequently, study so little, and fail at so often as communicate.

The unique workshops below are designed for individuals and teams. Blending communication skills, business principles, modern psychology, storytelling, neuroscience and improvisation, they help others connect to lay the groundwork for change. Each is offered in lengths of 2 hours, ½ day, and full day.

To inquire about any of the following workshops, or to discuss which could be transformative for a team or individual, contact Matt Perry.

Workshop Descriptions

  • Division. Arguments. Separation. They’re all too common. But they don’t have to be. In this workshop, we’ll learn how to shift perspectives, truly “see” The Other and welcome differences by viewing an issue through a new lens. We’ll also learn how to bridge gaps by finding common ground and celebrating differences. Finally, we’ll explore the possibility of setting opinions aside to discover that - surprisingly - both sides can actually be right.

  • Connection doesn’t happen automatically. Most of us enter a conversation with preconceived notions or a defensive stance. In this workshop, we’ll “tune up” our bodies and minds - our attitudes - with simple practices to set ourselves up for communication success. “Minds are like parachutes,” goes the old saying. “They don’t work unless they’re open.”  Just like getting ready for a vacation, when we prepare for dialogue we have a far more productive outcome.

  • There’s an art and science to meetings that goes far beyond the agenda. This workshop focuses on increasing collaboration during meetings to spawn new ideas and solutions that would typically be impossible. How do we start our meeting? (Hint: it’s fun.) How do we keep things moving and gain momentum? How long should meetings last? How do we include everyone? What’s the best way to end? What happens afterwards?

An effective meeting is like a great dinner, walk in nature, or deep conversation. We should feel fulfilled and energized when it’s over. Inquire about this workshop.

  • We have lots of practice talking and sharing opinions, but far less when it comes to listening. This workshop focuses on easy ways to improve listening skills that can enhance three important areas: communication, connection and productivity. We’ll learn embodiment practices (you may be asked to dance!) and listening skills designed to help you listen not just to what’s being said, but what’s being communicated non-verbally. “You have one mouth and two ears” is a great guide for this workshop! It’s excellent for people who talk too much, or simply have trouble communicating with others.

  • Asking questions is magical. They express interest, show concern, deepen connections, solve problems, change minds, even change lives. Asking questions is one of the greatest gifts we can give anyone. Meanwhile, there’s a second skill that’s even more important than asking that first question: Asking follow-up questions.

In this workshop we’ll learn how to ask questions (and follow up questions) with various goals for different conversations: get information, explore emotional states, clarify issues, or resolve problems. We’ll also explore the best follow-up question of all time: “Tell me more.” Inquire about this workshop.

  • Do you think too much? Join the club - a very big club! It’s time to “get out of your head and into your body”? The world of Somatics - the deep wisdom of the body - is exploding and offers us new ways to connect with ourselves, improve health, deepen intuition, find inner strength, and solve problems with friends and colleagues. In this workshop, we’ll explore a variety of grounding and centering practices that will help us build a powerful core – just like a house or building depends on a solid foundation. This workshop is guaranteed to provide you with new ways to “stay grounded” and weather the storms of life.

  • Conflict is hard. Problems aren’t fun. But what if we could find solutions that only required honest talk, speaking from the heart, and welcoming in a little magic? We’ll explore how to bypass the superficial issues that often present as the central problem, speak uncomfortable truths from the heart, then reveal the hidden issue lying at the center of our problems. After identifying the emotional issues underneath, the real work begins. When this groundwork is done, a safe container is created and participants can open up enough to discover something amazing: solutions never before considered arise seemingly out of nowhere. Like magic.

  • Modern philosopher Charles Eisenstein calls today “The Age of Separation.” It’s something we all know and feel but… how did we get here? Most people can identify the essential problems of our era as selfishness (and self-absorption, impatience, and a profound inability to communicate). This workshop explores how we got here, and offers some suggestions on how to connect. Topics include: talk radio, the 24-hour news cycle, the nuclear age, the electronic age, commercialism and the history of manipulating opinions.
